The Berufsorientierter Abschluss (Career-Oriented Certificate) at the Schule am Budenberg
Guidelines of the Hessian Ministry of Education (as of 11/2012):
The Berufsorientierter Abschluss (Career-Oriented Certificate) consists of 3 quality components:
The following subjects are an essential component with regard to awarding a certificate:
- Mathematics – application of mathematical skills
- German – application of reading, spelling and language skills
- Career Studies (Arbeitslehre) – basic knowledge and skills from the world of work in various occupational fields
In the team-oriented project examination, the following aspects are to be assessed:
- Decision-making
- Planning
- Implementation
- Presentation
- Reflection
Career orientation at this level includes:
- The content of the career orientation concept of the BO level
- Berufswahlpass (career choice passport)
- Documentation of internships
At least a grade of 4 in two subjects of the subject group M, D, AL is required, as well as a grade of 4 in the team-oriented project examination and in career orientation (BO).
A lower grade in the aforementioned subjects (M, D, AL) can be compensated by at least a satisfactory grade in the project examination or in career orientation (BO). A grade of 5 in the project examination can be compensated by a grade of 3 in career orientation (BO) or at least a grade of 3 in 2 subjects. A grade of 5 in career orientation (BO) cannot be compensated.
Timeline:
The team-oriented project examination (at least 2 persons) consists of various phases:
- Preparation: group formation, topic selection, distribution of tasks
- Implementation: execution/work effort, material research/review/processing
- Intensive phase: preparation week with a possible dress rehearsal
- Presentation: talk (written preparation according to individual possibilities) and reflection
The topics can be freely chosen. They must have a connection to classroom work and career orientation. It can also be a practical examination in which a work process is presented.
The presentation usually takes place in February/March of the final school year. The head of the Career Orientation Level chairs the examination. Assessors are the class teacher or supervising teacher.Implementation at the Schule am Budenberg:
There are 3 ways to obtain the Berufsorientierter Abschluss / BOA (Career-Oriented Certificate):
- regularly after 9/10 years of school attendance, also as part of participation in the student company (Schülerfirma),
- within the Hauptschulklasse (secondary school class leading to the Hauptschulabschluss), if it turns out that the requirements for obtaining a Hauptschulabschluss (general secondary school leaving certificate) are not met,
- within the Hauptschulklasse, if the central final examinations or the overall result are “negative”. In this case, the project examination is recognized as the project examination of the BOA and the Berufsorientierter Abschluss (Career-Oriented Certificate) is awarded.
In any case, the career orientation must show a sufficient level of learning performance. This means that at least one internship must have been completed appropriately.
For the students of the student company (Schülerfirma), a corresponding performance in the area of career orientation is weighted more heavily.The area of Career Studies (Arbeitslehre) at the Schule am Budenberg comprises the practical activities of crafts and home economics. In these areas, at least the basic certificate according to the competence framework should have been acquired.
Career orientation includes internships including preparation, implementation and follow-up or documentation, the area of “life skills”, as well as the vocational action competencies (download), according to the school’s internal competence framework. back
